Celtic have signed their fair share of project players in years gone by, such as Marian Shved and Eboue Kouassi, and a recent report from The Scottish Sun suggests another exciting teenager is on their radar.
Indeed, the report claims the Hoops are interested in signing lifelong fan Aaron Hickey from Hearts, but they are reluctant to meet the SPFL club’s asking price.
The 17-year-old left-back left Celtic for Hearts in 2017 and has since established himself as a regular in the starting XI despite his age.
The youngster, who turns 18 in June this year, has already started 18 times in the SPFL and chipped in at right-back and even central midfield where required, per Transfermarkt’s database.
Hickey is clearly a player with strong potential for future development, and there are many Celtic fans who believe the club should re-sign the former academy prospect.
While there is clearly a strong interest in bringing Hickey back to Celtic Park, it’s clear from the social media reaction that not everyone is convinced he is ready to step into Neil Lennon’s starting XI right now – a feeling prompting fans to recommend a deal which would see the youngster immediately return to Hearts on loan.
Not everyone is totally convinced by the reported target, though, as a contingent of supporters suggested the club should avoid a move altogether.
Considering Celtic’s supremacy in Scotland is under threat right now, it’s easy to understand why fans would prefer to see the club signing players with more experience.
Finally, this fan suggested the rumour doesn’t bode well for Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor…
