Onana has had a difficult first season with United after replacing David de Gea in the summer, conceding 45 goals in 28 matches in all competitions. He made a huge number of blunders in the Red Devils' abysmal Champions League campaign yet has continued to start every first-team match. United even negotiated a deal with Cameroon to ensure Onana was able to remain with the squad for the FA Cup tie and the match against Tottenham next Sunday before flying out to Ivory Coast for his country's African Nations Cup opener against Guinea, just 24 hours after facing Spurs.

United set a new record in November for their worst start to a season from a defensive point of view, shipping 33 goals in their opening 20 games for the first time in 61 years. Onana played in every single game.

Assuming United can beat Wigan in the third round, Bayindir will hope to finally make his United debut in the FA Cup fourth round on January 27, unless Cameroon have been eliminated by then from the AFCON. If Cameroon make it to the AFCON final on Feb 11, then Bayindir could also face Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa in the Premier League.
